Description
A nice find in the Quinault Rainforest, Washington.
It was towards the end of a hike when I reached a split in the path. The map showed one direction back to the car but the other way showed a waterfall. I was getting tired so I paused for a bit trying to figure out what to do. Since it did not look too far on the map from the point I was at, I decided to go and try to find the waterfall. It wasn't long before I could hear the sound of rushing water. I could not see water due to the denseness of the forest. I walked a bit more then stopped and looked down the side of the bank as that is where I heard the flow of the water the most. I could not see the falls but I could see the water flowing. There was no easy path to get down below. The side of the bank was covered with leaves, a log, and branches. After assessing the terrain, I decided to craw down the log using my hands and feet on the stubs of what used to be the branches. After hopping off the log at the bottom, I took a few more steps moving branches out of my way which opened up to this view. I was ecstatic and thought about how just a short while ago I was struggling with the decision on which direction to go. The tired feeling a bit ago also disappeared. My time here was going to be short as I wanted to leave enough time to get back to Waliby Creek Falls to photograph it. If you were observing me, you would have seen me jumping around from spot to spot looking for the best composition. This is the result.
